How virtual therapy is beneficial for perinatal mental health

Perinatal & Reproductive Therapy in Kansas & Missouri

At Holding New Therapy, virtual care isn’t only for convenience.

Online services create a therapeutic space that adapts to your body, your schedule, & your healing process (both physically & emotionally).

The benefits of online therapy include:

Flexible & realistic

Pick the time that works best for you
  • before daycare drop-off
  • during a contact nap
  • in the middle of your lunch break
  • after bedtime stories
  • while your toddler watches that one show for the 14th time

Wherever you are, we’ll meet you there
  • the parking lot while your child has their own appointment
  • your office between back-to-back meetings
  • the comfort of your own bed, nursing chair, or floor mat covered in toys
  • your backyard while the house inside lives in chaos

Broader reach = greater connection

Living in rural western Kansas, raising kids as a farming family near Pratt, living solo in a busy city like Overland Park or Leawood, tucked just outside of Wichita, juggling school drop-offs in Salina, balancing shift work in Topeka, or feeling like there are no good options near Wellington. You don’t have to choose between “no help at all” or “driving two hours for a session” — or finding someone who actually accepts your insurance.

No missed support

Bedrest, cluster feeds, or baby won’t take a bottle? You don’t have to skip therapy. Logging on during a contact nap or pumping session still counts. You’re showing up! That’s what matters.

Privacy where it counts

No waiting rooms, no awkward run-ins, no explaining why you’re “here.” Whether you’re processing an abortion, grieving a loss, or feeling the weight of stigma around postpartum depression, attend sessions where you’re most comfortable.

Convenience without compromise

See a therapist from any device (sorry – smoke signals don’t work yet). If you have WiFi, or can find a parking lot with WiFi, you can attend therapy sessions.

Access to specialized care

Not every community has therapists trained in reproductive mental health. Virtual therapy allows you to connect with a therapist who not only gets it but is extremely competent & trained in it — without being limited by geography.

Recover in your own space

Healing takes energy, and sometimes leaving the house is the last thing you want to do. Stay in your PJs & curl up on the couch to let your body rest, whether it’s
  • cramps after a miscarriage
  • aches from C- section stitches
  • sore & cracked nipples
  • bruises from stim shots
  • protection from pelvic floor pain

Prioritize your peace of mind

No need to scramble for childcare you trust or load baby into the car during cold & flu season. Your baby can wiggle on a playmat or snack their way through session. It won’t bother us (trust us!)

At Holding New Therapy, we know that reaching out for support is already a huge step. You shouldn’t also have to juggle zooming (responsibly) through traffic, stressing to find childcare, struggling to find a provider who just gets it, or choosing between going to therapy and physically recovering (from loss, a termination, or a birth).

That’s why we offer therapy fully online from any device that can access the Internet – phone, tablet, or computer. Virtual therapy means you can show up as you are, in the place you already feel most comfortable, during a time where everything else feels unknown

Wondering why we are only virtual?

Here’s what that allows us to do:
  • Accept more insurances: We’re able to partner with more insurance providers without worrying whether their reimbursement rates will keep the lights on.
  • Donate back to the community: Supporting local families & reproductive justice initiatives that align with our values.
  • Sponsor programs that matter: Funding community programs that directly impact our clients & their families, such as TOPSoccer, a soccer program for disabled children.
  • Pour into our therapists to prevent burnout: Sustainable wages, consistent funding for new trainings, & benefits that are worth their time, we value our clinicians & their families.
  • Center equity & inclusion: We can expand offerings like scholarships, sliding scale rates, outreach, & more to address systemic barriers in reproductive mental health.
Because we provide care virtually (with zero overhead for office rent or waiting rooms), we can reinvest our resources into what actually matters: you & your community.
Virtual therapy is a way we live out our values. We’re on a mission to support people, not buildings.

Here's everything we're able to do thanks to providing virtual services with zero overhead.

Entering your session

About 15 minutes before your appointment time, you'll receive a text & an email with the appointment link.

Log on with the device of your choosing. (Pro tip: If it's a phone, prop it up so your hand doesn't get tired from holding it all session!)

Wait for your therapist to "admit" you into the appointment.

During your session

Getting the most out of online therapy means prioritizing your comfortability. Sit where you are physically comfortable & emotionally safe. Use earbuds or ask your loved ones to leave the house for an hour. Hold your favorite fidget toy, sip your most delicious tea, or criss-cross your legs beneath a cozy blanket.
After your session

Don't jump back into your day-to-day too quickly. Take 5 - 10 moments to re-orient yourself & reflect on your session. Maybe that looks like jotting down your thoughts or spending time in a conversation with yourself. To ground yourself, lay flat on the floor or use whatever sensory strategy feels best. You're coming back to the present, but you can take the golden nuggets of your session with you.

No matter your zip code, your family structure, or your schedule, you can connect with a therapist who is in-network with your insurance and who is trained in perinatal mental health.

Life in the reproductive years is full of curveballs. From infertility treatments & loss to pregnancy, postpartum, & parenting, the thought of squeezing in therapy on top of it all can feel impossible. That’s why Holding New Therapy meets you right where you are: online.
